Creating a New Shipping Location

1. What is a Shipping Location? 

A shipping location is required in Salesforce against a customer account when you need to ship the stock (order) to a location other than the address which is stored on the account. 

A shipping address can be created from an opportunity record or directly from the account. 

Important Info: 

1. The shipping location solution is designed so that you can add a branch to an existing account, as per above example. The solution does NOT allow you to create a location against an account that is a separate business (e.g. account = Suncorp and delivery to ARA Building Services). This enhancement will follow shortly and all relevant users will be notified. 

2. If the sales order should be billed to a different account, then you need to create the opportunity against a new account (if the account doesn't already exist). 

3. A shipping location can also be used if you want to deliver the order to the attention of someone else (e.g. for a defibrillator).  

2. How do I create a new location from an account?

Navigate to the account record in Salesforce and click on the Related tab. Go to the Shipping Address header and click on the New button: 

Complete all required information - (all fields marked with an asterisk need to be completed) and click Save:

Refer to the below sample when completing the Shipping Location:

1 - This is the name of the business where the order will be delivered to 

2 - This is who you want the order to be delivered to (you can put your account contact name if unsure)

3 - The internal Salesforce name for this new record (e.g. this can be the same as the business name)

4 -  City = Suburb. Do NOT enter the suburb on any other field 

6 - Address Line 1 - Enter the street number & name here. If there's a unit number or floor, enter here too

7 - Enter the email address for the invoice to go to. This could be the same as the email address for invoices on the account. (Please make a note of the email address on the account before completing this step).  

3. Creating an Opportunity from a Shipping Location

You can create an opportunity directly from a location, as well as creating the opportunity from the account. 

  1. From your Shipping Address record, click on the Related tab and click on New from the Opportunities header. 
  2. Refer to Managing a Corporate Sale Opportunity for info regarding processing a stock-related opportunity. 

4. Creating a new location from an opportunity record

Navigate to the account and click on the Related tab. Click on the header: Opportunities and then click New:

  1. Select the type of opportunity required (Corporate Sales for stock items) . 
  2. Complete all mandatory fields and on the Shipping Address field,  select the location or create a new location from here (refer to steps mentioned previously):

TIP: When searching for the shipping address, you only need to enter the first few letters of the location name in order for it to appear.
