SJ QLD Marketing Preferences Enhancement
This user-guide gives an overview of managing marketing preferences for a lead and also for a contact in Salesforce for St John Queensland only.
Commercial electronic messages can only be sent if the account holder (the person who owns the email or phone account) has given permission. Under the Spam Act, it is up to the sender to prove that consent exists.
Express opt-in is considered true when the checkbox is ticked; Express opt-out is considered true when an account holder clicks an ‘unsubscribe’ facility on a communication (not if they just don’t tick the checkbox again, if they fill in a form multiple times).
Inferred consent can occur as a result of a business (or other) relationship, where there is reasonable expectation of receiving commercial electronic messages.
There are exemptions in the Act for registered charities where any electronic message can be sent without permission of the recipient, but consumer expectation around privacy and ownership of information is extremely high, and it’s not recommended to use this option.
1. Marketing Preferences - Leads
Marketing Email Opt-In and Opt-Out fields are available on the leads page-layout.
The fields are located on the marketing section of the leads page-layout as per below:
A lead will have ‘email opt out’ ticked by default.
The lead itself will need to actively opt in by subscribing to our newsletter or similar.
Once a lead actively opts in, ‘email opt in’ will be ticked, and ‘email opt out’ will be unticked automatically.
2. Marketing Preferences - Contacts
Contacts – on the other hand - are automatically opted in to receive SJ Qld marketing emails as a result of their relationship with us.
Note: This requires that Leads are being used correctly, and Contacts are only being created when there is an established relationship.
When a lead is converted to a Contact (or a contact is created), the checkbox: "Email Opt In"' will be ticked, and ‘email opt out’ will be unticked, as per below:
If the individual informs us (e.g. via email or telephone) that they want to stop receiving marketing emails, the end-user ticks the box "Email Opt Out" and this will automatically uncheck the box: "Email Opt In" at the same time.
Note: On the contact page layouts only, the "Email Opt Out" field doesn't have the prefix of "Marketing" unlike the other field, due to this being a standard, non-customisable field.
